We'd love your feedback to help us improve our hunts so any time and thoughts you are willing to provide at the bottom of the page would be greatly appreciated.
Clue One: (see it here) - Submit: the sum of the important dates from the Spring Semester HDS Residence Halls page. (In the form 01/123/12342) - Answer: 16/103/14070. The source for this answer came from this page on the HDS site and required teams to add each column individually.
Clue Two: (see it here) - Connect building with plans before Submitting the total number of visible panes of glass, of all sides, above the ground floor, multiplied by its first year of occupancy. Answer: 3,463,680 Plans for the buildings in the clue were either from the front or top and when connected the letters read "Durward". Each small section of windows were 8 panes of glass, there are 11 floors and on the north and south sides of the building 8 vertical sections and 2 vertical sections on the east and west, for a total of 1760 panes of glass. the building was first occupied in 1968. As no team found the same answer we at Rootles did, and as we couldn't immediately determine if there was a correct answer among the submissions it was determined to take that clue out of the competition.
Clue Three: (see it here) - Submit: The name of the area of temporary housing options for many GI Bill Graduate students after WWII; and where on campus some examples can still be found. Answer: Veterans Village; PERC (Holley Environmental Center) or at the Bay Farm Lot.
Clue Four: (see it here) - Submit: The name of the act and what Colorado received. Answer: the Morrill Act and Colorado received 30,000 acres of land. We accepted any mention of land to help found the university.
Clue Five: (see it here) - Submit: The product of the mileage to the Pingree Park Campus(53miles), the lbs recycled/resident of the third place Residence Hall for Week 3(10.64) and the number of solar panels atop Auxiliary Thermal Plant # 1(72) Answer: The correct answer was 40602.24. Some teams provided the variables, but did not in fact provide the product of the three.
Clue Six: (see it here) - Submit: The number of rocks in the area defined by concrete and buildings at the spot depicted by the clue. Answer: The spot was at the Academic Village and the correct number was 19 large rocks outside Aspen. When the skylines were matched up with their correct buildings the letters in sequence read: "The number of large rocks academic village". That information, coupled with the instructions on the clue, leads to the area in front of Aspen that is defined by the building and the concrete walkway. An argument could be made that the answer is 6, as there are six rocks pictured in the clue, but we were expecting teams to visit the location to asertain the full number in the designated area.
